Everyone wave hello to Diah!

He's my new laptop--an incredibly lavish Christmas present--that was very much needed as I'd been cobbling together computer/internet time on my own slowly dying desktop and E's laptop. It was problematic as she uses it a lot for school work and I couldn't always get the time I wanted. Grades > Fic What can you do?

Anyway, everything is now happily transferred over and running smoothly. Hopefully this means I will be able to update more regularly. Or at least more regularly than I have been.

In other news, I ordered in The Writer's Tale: The Final Chapter for myself because we don't normally carry it and I have a thing about ordering books online. I work in a bookstore, I should be able to get anything I want without having to resort to the internet. Anyway, it's all about RTD writing the Specials season of Doctor Who. It was endlessly fascinating and made me want to watch Who so much.

I watched The End of Time parts 1 and 2 and wish that I cared as much about Eleven as I did about Nine and Ten. Nine is my favorite and I think, always will be, but I ended up loving Ten after just a couple of episodes. I still like the show, I do. I think the story lines are interesting and the show is still cool, but I don't have this gut reaction to Eleven that I had with the last two. Part of it is definitely that it feels like everything I spent the last five years LOVING never even happened.

I'm happy a new season will be starting in the spring, but it makes me sad the only thing I'm going to get from RTD is America!Torchwood.

This is not exactly where I expected this post to go, but there you are. I have some fic to post, little baby things that I'd like to have here in my journal, and I'm a crazy person about that kind of thing, but that is going to have to wait for another day.

Also!! If anyone is reading anything AWESOME in the book world drop me a line. I'm dying for something good. I'd prefer something grown up, but I'll take any rec as long as it's good.

I know we discussed this earlier, but yeah, I totally agree with you on DW. 9 is your fav, and 10 is mine, but we both agree that 11 just isn't bringing that total LOVE we had before. I'm not going to stop watching the show, and I still really enjoy it, but yeah, it's almost like 9 and 10 never happened. :/

I'm so glad you love Diah. :D Here's to lots of great writing with him! ♥

Not awesome books but you might be interested in this.

I am sorry you aren't feeling the Eleven love. I kinda adore him, which I didn't expect at all. In fact, I walked in expecting to HATE him but I don't. Exact opposite in fact!

What's your work like the next few days? I want to call and babble and discuss baby names (which you totally can NOT TELL DAVE I DID because I am not allowed but you know how WELL I respond to being told I can or can not do things.)

It's not that I don't like him, I do, I just don't love him. I don't know. He comes across as very alien in a way that Nine and Ten never did. I don't know. I think I'm being too picky.

Like I said, I have nothing but time this week. I love discussing names, it's one of my fav things in the world.

The trick is trying to find time where I don't have to worry about being overheard as that we are Not Talking About Names until Robert and Gina have their little boy (due momentarily but possibly not for two weeks) so we don't fall in love with a name then have to go with second best if that name gets used by them. I understand? But all the same--NAMES!

It would be so much easier if it was a girl, since we had decided on that already.

(That does make me sad, since I can't say "Maybe next time," as that I don't think I can go through this again. Ow. Some bodies are made for pregnancy, mine not so much.)

Er, what sort of non fiction are you interested in reading? I've been reading a good mix of history and medical nonfiction this year.

"The Speckled Monster" by Jennifer Lee Carrell is fabulous. The subtitle is 'a historical tale of battling smallpox' and that pretty much says it all. But it read almost like a novel.

Or how about "Lords of the Sea" by John R. Hale. It's about the Athenian navy. =P

Or what about "The Secret History of the Mongol Queens: How the Daughters of Genghis Khan Rescued His Empire" by Jack Weatherford?

Um...would you rather read fiction? Let me know what genre and I will what I can rec.

Wow. Sometimes, I miss working in a bookstore! D=

I'll definitely take a look at these, I'm a huge fan of nonfiction across lots of different topics, so the odds are good that one of them will work.

If you have any fiction recs, I'll take those. I'll read pretty much anything as long as it has a good plot. I'm not super keen on mysteries--they make me anxious--and romance--that's what fanfic is for--but other than that, I'm game.
